Sneak Preview of Our Check Point Experience Session

by

This week we are fortunate to be speaking alongside Stefano Ciminelli of Verizon Business at the Check Point Experience show in Barcelona. I would like to share a small sneak preview from the session titled “Regaining Control of Your Firewall Policy – Tales from the Trenches”.

This session is full of practical advice based on real-life case studies (and horror stories) from the field like this one –

A big financial company with about 1000 firewalls rules added every year has traditionally spent a small fortune on firewall hardware.
The size of the ruleset required adding a new cluster every year as performance was slowing down dramatically. It also caused the company to disable logging as too much information was created.

Firewall analysis (using AlgoSec Firewall Analyzer) discovered that:

  • 5 rules accounted for 97.4% of the connections!
  • Almost every protocol from everywhere was allowed.

After cleaning up the ruleset, the company not only improved its security posture, it was also able to disinvest half of its hardware, and activate logging to capture important information.

If you would like to hear more and happen to be at CPX, make sure to attend the session on May 5 at 11:15am. For everyone else, we will be recording the session and posting it soon.
